RIPATRANSONE
(20 Km. from San Benedetto del Tronto)
Ripatransone rises on a hill and enjoys such a view
that it has been called the "view point of the
piceno". The ancient town centre is medieval structure
with renaissance and baroque period buildings and curiously
it has the most narrowest street in Italy, just 43 cm.
wide.
One of its primary features is its archaeological museum,
picture and plaster cast gallery, peasant life and handicrafts
museum and the ethnographical museum.
Piazza XX Settembre is the heart of the town where the
town hall is situated inside the Palazzo del Podestà
dated 1304. The cathedral, built between 1597 and 1623
houses statues and canvases dated 17th century.
The most important event is the "Cavallo di fuoco"
(held on the first Sunday after Easter). Typical speciality
is the "Ciavarro" (made of legumes and cereals
with a spicy sauce). A walk around the town centre is
perfect for people who like history and architecture.
The numerous public and private museums confirm the
town's attitude to safeguard the traces of local past
and history. In the book shop of the archaeological
museum you can buy local hand-made objects. You cannot
miss a walk through the narrowest street in Italy and
in the Bottega del Vino (wine shop) situated under the
arcades of the ancient Palazzo degli Anziani, you can
get a certificate to prove you went there.
The largest farms of this region exhibit their products
in the Bottega del Vino and it is also possible to ask
for information or book visits to the farms where the
local piceno people will extend their discreet but warm
hospitality to tourists.
